GO TO THE DOCTOR.

This isnt a sympathy post, just trying to preach to you all.

I just found out that i have Krohn's disease. It is something with my stomahch and intestines and it sucks big time. I was at first diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome(sounds gross,i know, but it isnt what you think,i would just throw up almost everything i ate at the most random times, without and provocation) I had it for about 3 years befor ei thought of it as a problem. I thought everyone woke up atleast twice a week and hovered over the toilet for 3 hours or more. I thought it wa snormal and i was just a sissy because i couldnt handle it. Finally when i went ot have a checkup i told my doctor about it,and he told me what a serious problem it was. And because i waited 3 years to tell a doctor,it was very very bad. Basically the acid from being sick is eating away at me,and my intestines. My dad has also been diagnosed with this, and Hes had to quit drinking,no caffiene, etc etc. My uncle has it and has had a large chunk of his intestines removed and has had 4 operations in the past year. Since finding out i had this, about 4 months ago, i have lost 10 lbs. Not intentionally. I weighed 114 when i went to the doctor the first time, lost two lbs eery visit since then, and am now down to 104 lbs. If i keep losing weight i dont kwno what will happen. And its not like i try to diet or anything either,i eat cheesesteaks on a daily basis(lol) diet has almost nothing to do with it excpt for carbonation and anythign of the like. Im not sure whats going to happen to me now. I know i have to take pills that do nothing that cost over $300 a bottle. i Have to take them 3 times a day. No matter how many times i wake up being sick, and have done so for the past 3 years,i will never ever get used to it. It is seriously one of the worst feelings in the world to be nausious 24 hours a day. I have missed so much work and so much school, and social events,i cannot even have a normal life. So my point to all this is, If you have something wrong with you, dont wait to go to the doctor,PLEASE. It is so important, take it from me. Hope everyone is Happy and Healthy,i wish i was.

thanks veeryone. Im sure ill live, but it doesnt sound like its going to be fun, But that wasnt the point of my post, just make sure your all happy and healthy. if you have a problem,no matter how stupid or embarrassing it may sound it is so important to go. its not like i exactly felt like telling my doctor that i live on the toilet but i finally did.oh well, its not somethign i can control so theres no sense being embarrassed.but again, just take care of yourselves and your bodies! dont be dumb like me!

Thanks for the concern, Sheryl, and I really hope things start to look better for you. Along with you and Waldo, I have had a myriad of health problems due to the most dumb thing (eating too many sweets/carbs as a child) and it's done so much until I finally found out what was going on!

It's really important to see a doctor when you're not feeling good, and moreover, see specialists if you have to! It can be too late later on.

Also, Sheryl, what is Krohn's disease? I remember my nephew had some problems that he couldn't keep anything down and it was a bacterium in his stomach or something along those lines, and now my grandfather is dealing with the same thing. But is Krohn's something along those lines?

I'm very sorry for what's happening to you, Sheryl It must have done a lot of disturbance in your life, but I really hope everything will be back in order to live it healthy for long years !

What I'll say may be inappropriate, but I find it really sad to know such pretty and educated girl has health troubles... that should happen to someone else...

thanks, that was really nice. but crohns(sorry i spelled it wrong earlier,im just learning about it now too) is an autoimmune disease like right where my small and large intestine meet( dont you love hearing about my guts?ha) basically its like my own cells attacking eahcother and breakign eachother down, and causing random spasms causing me to either throw up or something else(im not getting into details but you can imagine, just remember what it feels like when you have the flu,and fluids are coming out of all parts of your body, thats pretty much me on a regular basis). I dont know much about it,only what i experience. Im actually nausious as i type this, as usual. It a hereditary thing, only 1 out of like 100,000 people get it. (and i knwo 3 including me?whatre the odds) Its one of the reasons i had to leave school, becaus ei could never get out of the bathroom in order to go. ive missed so mcuh work, and am suprised i still have a job, but i have a note to back up every time i call out,so they cant fire me for it,i hope. it sucks,i cant do anormal things, i always get sick, always. i take pills that cost me everything but do nothing. i cant wake up in a good mood, because theres no being in a good mood when you live at the toilet. i cnt drink soda, i dont drink beer or alchohol to begin with, have to watch the med si take, and the only thing to make me feel remotely better is to sleep propped up, but sometimes that doesnt even work. nothing does. sorry for rambling on and sorry for being a sissy, im just a whiner and not many people wanna hear all this crap. i need someone to cry to.the toilet doesnt comfort me when i cry! oh well, thanks for an interest and cheering me up anyways, guys. i love yas!

Oh man, don't feel bad about venting this stuff out.. it sounds as if it's about damn time you started complaining. That's the kind of stuff for yelling about!

Anyway, that's awefully terrible. I think nausea is the most terrible thing on Earth. Seriously, I could handle the pain of an amputated hand over constant nausea. And although I've learned to limit the carbs I eat to stay healthy, I think I'd die if I couldn't have soda!

I really feel for you and I hope that the doctors are able to do something for you and others with your disease or disorder.

I used to get nausea a lot from birth control pills I had to take that I'm really sensitive to. I had to take them because this insulin thing messed up my hormones to the point I had my period ALWAYS for MONTHS on and on. I know there is a medication that starts with a "P" that used to help a lot, because it numbs the lining of your stomach or something, but I don't know if it's something you could take. Either way, I'll look now and see if I can find the name so you can ask your doctor, because it can be a real life saver! Good luck!

Say anything you want to say, even if that's sad, I'm here to listen, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

All I can add to this is ..whew! i'm glad to be healthy! (for the moment)

Take care of yourself and I hope the best for you (hope they will find an effective cure for it soon)

Sheryl, the anti-nausea pill I used to take was Promethazine. It was a really small pill and worked very well while I took it, and a friend took it also and it worked well for her.

Also, the pill will numb the inside of your throat if you take too long to swallow it, so it just proves how effective it is. I think it lasted a while effects, too. I once had a terrible, terrible inner-ear infection and I couldn't get rid of the pain and I swore I was about to stick something sharp into my ear and puncture the damned thing just to rid myself of the pain from the infection. I rather have accute pain. Anyway (not recommending this to anyone, btw, but just to show how well it works), I actually microwaved one of these pills with some water until it dissolved (really easily dissolves, btw) and put some of the drops in my ear and in less than ten minutes I felt NOTHING in that ear. It was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me, lol. I couldn't hear very well because I had stuff in it, but I was so relieved to get that pain out that I didn't care. By the time the pill's effect in my ear wore off, I had already treated the infection and never had to deal with that again.

Sheryl~ Sorry to hear about your illness, a good friend of mine also has Crohn's, but she's known about it most of her life. She says that the part she hates the most is No Dairy! Always saying how much she misses ice cream and that the lactos free stuff just isn't the same.

Has your Dr talked to you about diet yet? If not, start avoiding ALL dairy... no more cheese cake!!! Everything with dairy, stop eating it and you'll feel a lot better. If you want any more information on it let me know and I can give her your e-mail.

Hang in there girl, I know you feel like crap and all but this doesn't have to take you down! Now that you know what's wrong, you can do everything to avoid flare-ups.

Feel better soon!

I am sorry to hear about health problems. The thing bothering me is chronic fatigue syndrome so I can relate to the not being able to do normal things on a regular basis. At work I get so tired that i have to go sit in the breakroom and shut my eyes for a few minutes, otherwise it feels like i am gonna pass out. Then sometimes i get dizzy, lik in really stressful situations dealing with customers, but i have been getting better at blocking them out i guess. But some days it is hard to get out of bed, i really gotta push myself. It even feels like when i wake up, i hardly lept at all, when I got sevem or more nice solid hours of sleep in fact. I thought maybe i had a thyroid problem, but my Dr. always just says i am depressed and writes me perscriptions for zoloft, which i will not take. I dont feel depressed per se, but then again, not havng the energy to go places energetically is depressing in itself. Anyone else have the fatigue?

Gin~ Have you talked to your Dr. about possible Anxiety Disorder? You have the same exact symptoms as my husband and he has it. He takes BuSpar and it's working GREAT for him. (He hasn't had any of the side effecta like you'd get from Zoloft and such which are also used for Anxiety) Look into Anxiety disorders with your Dr. the symptoms are a lot like depression but what makes me think other wise is the dizziness in stressful situations. Do you get sort of a shortness of breath and a tightness in your chest and limbs?

I have a friend (actually 2, and one with IBS) that has crohn's disease. He has known he's had it all his life. Actually anxiety and stress irritate it Crohn's. Anytime you are under stress your crohn's will seem worse. Don't be tempted to eat the food's your doctor says no to, it worsens your symptoms for days even weeks to where you won't want to eat even the foods you are allowed. My one friend has a severe case and has actually had surgeries every 6 months to a year for the past 5 years.
As for your work, get some reading material on it...just basic stuff. Explain to your human resources manager what you have and what it involves. They can't fire you because of your illness, but if they don't know what's up and think you are playing at being sick they can fire you...so be up front.

Even if you think you have nothing worth stealing.....someone will come along and steal your tail.

I am very sorry to hear about all that Sheryl! Damn doctors....we pay them all this money for them to mis-diagnose or easily push it off on something else. One of my close friends was in a car accident when she was pregnant with her second child and messed her back up. She had to get surgery after the birth and the doctor TOTALLY messed up her back. Cut her spine in two places and didn't reinforce it so now there's no support for the spine he left in the middle...i know this doesn't make sense....figure, hold up a pen or pencil.....now cut both ends off and there's the part in the middle...that's what the damn doctor did and didn't put anything there to support her back. So now she's going to be crippled basically and she's only 35 and has two kids that she'll never be able to run and play with. I do hope things get better for you! Get a second opinion....you can never have too many. It's hard to find a good doctor nowadays. And if you ever need to vent we're all here for you. I'm the kind of person that will wait for the pain to go away....I hate doctors! I was having TERRIBLE pains in my stomach last week and was crying all the way home and could hardly drive...and I went home and balled up on the couch and cried myself to sleep. In a couple days it went away so I guess it's all good but it does suck not having anybody to listen to you or for you to cry to. I couldn't even go home to my husband last week and cry to him because he's in Georgia right now. So by all means....we're here for you!

Sheryl, you can't have dairy now? Oh, geez, that's terrible! I would so die!

Gin, if you have chronic fatigue I would really try my best to figure out what's doing it. I know I've had problems with depression and even if I'm not actually sad, I just can't get myself to do anything. So, it could be that and it wouldn't hurt to give Zoloft just a chance if you haven't yet. Also, you could be anything from dehydrated to having a deficiency to having anemia to just having your hormones out of whack, so I'd get some bloodwork done A.S.A.P. and try to figure out what's causing that!

Come to think of it,i cant eat practically anythign without getting sick. What am i goign to eat for breakfast??? no cereal? Ugh! no ice cream, ugh! ugh ugh ugh! Ha seriously though. im getting really tired of being sick. Ive started getting depressed too now. I had bad depression when i was 15, to the point where my hair started almost falling out(not the the point of being bald) I cannot handle stress well at all, which is what this Crohns is all about.Stress kills me.and i stress over everything. Nothing helps. The only things keeping me alive are my animals, my boyfriend, and my fmaily. i am really that tired of it, sometimes i want to give up but i cant. i cant do it. i wanna grow up and live my happy life and do everything i planned on doing. I wanna get married, iwanna have my store,i wanna have my house, and i want to have more animals then i know what to do with. Hopefully i can and will, I dont want this disease to get the best of me. Ugh, time to go cry again...

Hang in there girl!!! They are developing new things every day ti fight the disease. I will be seeing the friend of mine with Crohns on Sunday and I'll talk to her about what her Dr is doing for her. You are still so young! You can over come the bad parts now that you know what is going on. It's just going to take some time to find the right program for you.

Be strong, Sheryl. It really isn't fair that you or anyone else with Crohns has to deal with all of that, but if you can't do anything about it, just ignore it as best you can and live life on.

I really, really hope something can be done about this, though!

I'm so sorry spydy!! I feel for you. I think my boyfriend has Crohns too, but he refuses to go back to the doctor, and eats nothing but junk food!! STUPID!!!!! (sorry, I can vent here, and he wont get mad!) He has had trouble with his stomache for years, and since I have been dating him (a year and two days, today!) it has never gotten better. He refuses to eat real food, the closest he comes is cereal and steak. He had bloody bowel movements, and told me, but made it seem like it was just a little, like if you wipe too hard, but then (I know its gross, but bear with me) I saw it one day, and it was more blood than an entire period!! It had been bleeding all day so I made him go to the hospital, they shceduled a colonoscopy. He went for ther colonoscopy like the next day. The day after that he was balled up on the bathroom floor, out of his head.. he wouldn't let me call ambulance, so I called his dad. Together we got him back to the hospital. It turns out when they did the colonoscopy they punctured his intestine and had to do emergency surgery to fix the tear. They took out his appendix while they were there!! He now has a 8 inch scar down the center of his beautiful belly and still cannot lift heavy things, do sit-ups or anything. I understand why he doesn't want to go back to a doctor, but I am afraid of what may happen if he does not!! He went for his last check up witht he surgeon, complained of pain, and the surgeon said "you shouldn't be having any pain, that must be from something other than the sugery" AAAAAHHHGGG! I wish he would listen to reason and go to a specialist and find out whats wrong!! I don't want to lose him!!
So anyway, sorry..... I meant to get around to the piont of saying that I had researched crohns extensively and the depression that goes along with it... St. John's Wort is good for depression, but ask your doctor first, it may cause trouble with the meds your taking... Are you takinf Asocol? Thats what they usually give, and it worked for my grandfather. Another thing is to get your anger and frustration OUT! no matter how. Paint, write, call people, play guitar, break glass bottles, just something to get those emotions out instead of holding it all in... they will only make you worse if kept locked inside. The best of luck to you and I am here if you need to talk or anything... Also, I know there are lots of support groups out there for crohns, lots of people can give you tips on how to live and be happy even with this....Lots of love to you... Laci

Aww thank you guys,al of you,so much. I dont even know yous but youve become some of my best friends by just listening to me. Yes,my father takes Asacol, theyre the expensive pills. I havent had an appt. with the gastro. doctor yet,my appt is on 9/11. I have to get a colonoscopy. Uck. Im really not looking forward to any of this. Im scared to take pills right now,or eat dairy(i havent since you told me that Heather, and I havent had an attack yet today, bite my tongue)No carbonation. And actually, diet has next to nothing to do with the attacks coming on. I havent myself experienced any blood, that is a whole nother ball game. The way i get my fristration out and keep from getitng stressed it to pretty much mess around with my animals. I mean watch them,or fix their tank up,or go to a really good pet store. Honestly, it makes me feel so calm. Get your b/f to a doctor quickkkk. Hes makign the same mistake i made but it looks as if hes got it worse then I. That may be something other then crohns. there are 3 different type. this may sound gross, its a gross thing to deal with but this is the way it goes. It all has to do with bowel movements and such. the first type is severe constipation,to the point where no stool is passed for weeks. Really uncomfortable,im sure. Not what i have. The second type is having a bowel movement at a minimum of 8 times a day, with no consistency to it. Close to being me,but not quite. The third type is what i have and it is a mixture of the two. More of type 2 then anything though, the really really sucky kind.

Oh man, I feel really sorry for all your troubles! And Laci's boyfriend, too. I really think that there needs to be more awareness in the U.S. about these health problems and what to do about them, because it seems that most people don't end up seeing a doctor until way later when they end up at the hospital!

Sheryl~
I tried to email this to you but my mail is having a brain fart or something. I also thought that this info could help others.

I called the friend of mine with Crohn's and asked if she could email me some tips and such. Here is what she wrote...

"ok, here are a few starting points. Sorry about my spelling.
1. GET SLEEP. Sleep is vital to your body in order to heal. Take a sleeping pill if necesarry at first. Your body cannot heal when it is sleep deprived.
2. CHANGE YOUR DIET. Avoid dairy at all costs. It is our poison. Avoid red meat; it is hard on normal intestines and tears up those with Crohn's. Drink some Ensure Plus until your intestines are back to normal. Then, work in easily digestable foods until completely healed. Stay away from salads and roughage until completely healed. Once healed, eat lots of veggies and fruits and a high protien, low carb diet. Carbs turn to sugars which is an immune supressant. Sugar is evil.
3. VITAMINS AND MINERALS ARE ESSENTIAL. Every single day, you must take a multi-vitamin, extra iron (we lose it in our diarrea without knowing it) and liquid, or colloidal minerals. RUN to the healthfood store and get some liquid vitamins and minerals. People with Crohn's don't digest things properly, so liquids are necesarry for absorption. Try to get B-12 in a shot or liquid nasal gel. It's gross but peps you up. Also, take Lysine for apthous ulcers and/or cancer sores in the mouth.
4. AVOID STRESS. Learn how to de-stress your life without drugs. It's hard. You have to learn to identify the stresses, whether mental, physical or emotional. Once you figure out what stresses you, then you have to toss it out of your life. If it's your parents, move out. If it's your kids, get a babysitter or put them in daycare. If it's your job, quit. If it's your boyfriend, dump him. In my case, I had to quit school and work. I took medication and slept for 1+ 1/2 years. It took me that long to get healthy with doctors drugs. I could have done it much sooner if I had known about the minerals and diet changes. Still it won't be an easy road to get healthy but once you're there, you won't go back to being sick.
5. Moderate exercise is important. Cardio stuff is best, if you have the energy. Don't over do it until you are completely healed.
DO NOT LET THE DOCTORS TAKE YOUR INTESTINES OUT. You can heal them. I have scars inside mine to prove where I healed them. If you need repair surgery for fistulas, that's ok but still stick to the diet while healing.
DO BE HAPPY. It's so important to be happy. Go to a counselor to deal with depression issues. Having a disease can be devastating at first. But, Crohn's can be controlled, without drugs and for a lifetime. Make a promise to not let it control you, you must control it. You are the only person in charge of your life. You make decisions to change. You are the only one who can make those changes. But, if you choose not to change your lifestyle, then you won't get healthy. It is simply your choice.

I hope that helps. I'll try to think of some other stuff later tonight.
Susy"

ooh,i didnt even see the other post you made. My father went to a dietition(sp?) and they told him no potatoes or starches,no dairy(but yogurt is okay) no red meat, no roughage, no candy,no alchohol,no carbonated drinks. Ive been trying to stick to that diet since finding out,and its been since monday and ive only had one attack so far this week. So awesome. You have no idea what a relief it is to sleep a whole nights sleep. the diary thing is still sort of killing me, and the fact i cant have my philly cheesesteaks!(i mean a PHILLY cheesteak, have you ever had a philly cheesesteak?Youll know why im so sad if you have)All i eat or drink anyways is water, iced tea, lemonade and fruit, all i eat ever. I think i might go back to being a vegetarian... I wasnt sick as often then as i am now. but thank you so much for your help,Heather. I really really appreciate it,you have no idea! Thanks to all you guys,i Love yas
