I have a planted RETF vivarium and lately there has been a lot of mold in the soil/coco fiber? Is this bad? I try to replace the moldy soil, but it keeps coming back. Will the mold harm the frogs?

Or you could buy/collect some Pill Bugs or some Springtails. Both of these "bugs" won't harm your frogs, they will be eating the mould, decaying plant matter and frog poops. They are little clean up crews.

They are very popular with dart frog keepers, and you can usually find one or both of these buggies from sites that sell dart frogs and dart frog supplies, also some bug farmers sell these as well.

Pill bugs are also called "rollie-pollies", "wood lice", and "sow bugs"

Actually , last year I had a batch of spaghnum come through here that at about 7 days of being moist would grow a white hairy fungus that had a pungent odor and would kill juvie dart frogs.

bill was it new zealand AAA? Reason I ask is the store bought from lowed or HD or the pressed brick approx. 8 inch by 1 inch thick are usually chilean and I have personally experienced issues a few yrs back. Now, it is "you pay for what you get". Not sure this happened to you, but just a note that some chilean mosses have caused problems, even death for some reason to frogs.

99% sure that you have a normal cycling of the viv Liam, I don't know other than keeping darts for, I dunno, more than 4 yrs, that mold is normal in newly set up vivs. Mist it down and add in some springtails. Joshsfrogs sells both the temperate and tropical and seems to have the best IMO and there are places you can get safe isopods, I try to aim for the non-frog keepers personally but that would be the typical OCD in me that sell isopods. Dwarf white, the smaller white with the stripe and the bigger orange ones are all great. Feed some shrooms now and then, rice and pasta to the springtails and high quality fish food in moderation in between some coco-fiber mix ( ABG) orks wonders and just lift a peice of cardboard and voila, shake in tank. Good calcium! There are cycles my own vivs go through even though I bleach my plants and moss. I get mushrooms every now and again and will occasionally see a mold spot, nothing I get finicky about.
@ bill so sorry you had to go through that. I hope it wasn't a chilean moss issue. Glad you caught it in time.

generally mold will not hurt a frog at all.

I had the same issue last year as Bill with spag moss....except mine would get the white mold in 48hrs-10 days.

Kristy - I had the issue with New Zealand and South American mosses.
