i'm at an end with bobbie. let me give a breakdown in case anyone forgot.....

Bobbie got an impaction in the beginning of january. the impaction was removed but he never quite ate again. he eats about 2 crix every two to three weeks. the doctor said he developed mbd from the time of not eating and that he would not benfit from calcium shots. he now has a deformed jaw, splayed backlegs and is serouisly losing weight. i can now see his back bone. and if he jumps he land up side down and can not flip him self back over. here is the problem... i know he is suffering and starving but forcefedding leaving crix in for days and all else does not work. he is about the same size as he was in jan. no growth at all. but i know from my big guy the rate they grow and he is not doing it. so i'm rambling sorry but here goes the question.. when is enough, enough? i do not want to see him suffer but i don't want to end his life before i need to. does anyone understand this? i need some advice, i'm willing to do what ever it takes. i'm including a picture of him. he a 7 or 8 month old guy. but look at his size about 2 inches around. what do you guys think?

the pic just gave a link right back to this thread. I feel so sorry for you,and for Bobbie. But sometimes it is just better. If it was me, I would probably suck it up and do what was best for him.Such a hard decision. With pets come certian responsibilities we all must face as pet-owners at one time or another. If it is better for him,and if he is very sickly and suffering, euthanization is probably best for him. It is very much up to you though. You will make the right decision. Bless you,and I'm so sorry.

Picture did not work for me. In my opinion you have had enough frogs to understand them. In that I feel that in your heart you will know when it is time. It will by no meens be an easy thing to do but you will be able to look at him and KNOW that that is what you have to do. I do not wanna speak for everyone but I think they all will agree that no matter what and when you decide that it has to be done....we will all be here for you and be waiting your return after it is all over with. Hope this helps at all. Good luck. You are in our prayers.

Hya Dana. I have been where you are asking the same question and I'll share with you the best advice I got at the time: You and only you can decide if it is time to put Bobbie down. You are with him everyday and have been - right by his side, being a wonderful froggie mom - and you know what is best for him. You know what the options are, what can be done and have done everything you know how to do for him. By coming here and asking about this, you know what likely lies in the near future. Do what your heart knows is the best for Bobbie - and only you can know that. All we can do is support you through your decision. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell you much more than you already knew - but hopefully it'll help - it did for me once upon a time. You know where I am if you need me.

I am really glad that everyone can help everyone. I know that sometimes it takes awhile to get back to wanting to talk about it and it is hard with-out breaking into sobs.

Dana, as far as the orajel, Henry says to put a dab in the palm of your hand and then sit him on your palm. He also said if you want you can put him in the freezer overnite. One last thing he said that I thought was just so touching is that it can help if while you're holding him you tell him your sorry you don't know more to do for him and also thank him for teaching you what he has. I'm getting all teary eyed now - this is what he told me when I asked how to do this for Neechi. Are you sure you can do this Dana? You've been through so much already. I'm worried about you. You know you can take them to a vet for this too - that's what I had to do with Sonji. Just a thought. Wish I could trade places with you girl. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Lemme know if there is anything I can do. In my thoughts and prayers.

I didn't do the freezer thing either. It's just an additional step you can take to be sure they are euthanized completely.
Dana, will try to catch you online tomorrow to chat. Hope you're okay.

Dana I know you'll make the right decision and no matter how many times you may have to do this in the future or how many times it has been done in the past it never gets any easier. And for someone as lovely as you, it doesn't come naturally or easily.

No one thinks bad of you and you ultimately have the power to give the little fella the best present you could give him, peace.

You know what to do and what is best for your little guy better than anyone else. Have the strength and we are all with you

I know how it is waiting. I did the same thing with a pet rat I had once. And the day I was to take him to he vet, he had passed on his own. Which of course made me feel even worse because I felt like I had let him suffer to the end.

Hang in there girl. It hurts like hell but it happens.

We are here for you and you have my on messanger if you need to talk.

(((hugs)))

I don't really know what to say......I'm so sorry that you are faced with that decision. It is a difficult, heart-wrenching thing to have to decide and I don't envy you. I have been there, and trust me when I say that if you feel he is suffering in any way, and you decide to end that suffering, you can be at peace knowing that he will be in a better place. Please know that we are all here to help in any way we can. Take care girl!

I wish I could say something that would take the hurt away for you. But alas, I can't. As much as I wish I could take all the pain and suffering you have withstood as of late away. But you're a strong girl and all the caring you give is what makes you strong. Do whats best for those you love. And everything will be right in the end. Your loved ones will live on in your memory and the memories of everyone they have touched.

update......

hello all... i woke up at three in the morning to a plop and splash. he was in his water bowl and suprise not on his back. but then i tried to feed him a crix and he would have no such thing. this guy is my heart so i can't give up yet. but we will see tommorrow how he looks. i lowered the water bowl so if he flips(like he does so often) he won't drown. just thought i would share that.

I'm sorry about all this, I'd hate to be in your position, that's for sure. Do you think he might have parasites? It certainly won't explain his not eating, but if you've force fed him and he is still losing weight it could be possible.
