Ok. Here's the deal:
My relatively new GTF started comming down with the symptoms of Jesse(who died before he moved in). I think I caught it in time. I sent him to the happy froggie spa/quarentine, which is their old, smaller viv. which also happens to now house my freedom-seeking crickets. So, he had a lot of food, I increased humidity, but not temp, and gave him water. His poo looks normal and all that, no weird color or spots.

His symptoms: scary hiccup thing (whole body jerks then he gets really skinny, then gulps air and fills out again. Definately not a good thing.)
Got skinny, didn't hop around, did more streachy-walking thing.

He looks much better, is eating more and getting fatter and seems more energetic.

His tank-mate is fine, fat and happy, (he was also fine when the other one was sick and died.) I'm wondering if he could be the cause, like a carrier of something. I cleaned the viv. really really well after the other one died, so I don't think that's it. Any advice guys??

Thanks!!!

Are you sure he is not shedding? It definitely sounds like he is shedding to me - have you ever seen a frog shed before? If not, it'll definitely scare you to pieces. I freaked out and called the vet - thought for sure he was choking to death or something. Anyhow, if he's opening and closing his mouth, wiggling his sides, rippling his belly, rubbing his head and sides with his feet/legs and you may even be able to see some slimy mucusy looking stuff in the corners of his mouth then he's just shedding his skin. When a frog sheds he works all the old skin forward into his mouth and swallows it. Somewhere on the forum here is a pic of a GTF shedding - check in the pic forum. If this isn't what it is, need more specifics to diagnose but never leave a frog in a tank with a bunch of loose crix. They are a nuisance to the frogs and will stress them needless to say they can nibble ont he frogs when they are sleeping. Only put in a tank what will be eaten in one night. Hope this helps!

I would concur that he is prolly shedding, but it is nice to see you noticed different behavior. To me it means you are an observant and concerned owner.

I agree with Becki regarding leaving him in with the feeder crix. Addtionally,You should not put a sick frog in with feeder crickets in the future. If he had been sick he could pass the illness to your other frog via the crickets dining on his poo.

Just my 2.5 cents--

Thanks Frogbert for the additional thought on passing infection on to other frogs through the crix - slipped my mind.

Mine take a few days sometimes. Stubborn skin I guess.

I think I can definately rule out shedding, as he passed away sometime in the night. I found him streached out on the floor of the viv in the morning. I don't think I'm cut out for the frog world. I don't want to buy another, but I also don't want gordo to live alone. What do you think I should do? Whatever killed Jesse killed Peque, but it's not in the viv or contagious, because I completely cleaned out the tank when Jesse died, (we're talking boiling water, new substrate, fake plants, the whole works), plus Gordo is one of my origional frogs, and he's completely unharmed. I just don't know what's causing it! What do I do?!
