my smallest and most enerjetic frog has escaped! i have checked every knick and crany of the room the tank is in and nothing! i have tried playing a call for a FBT and still nothing!

What to do? he could be any where in the house by now and the house is fairly large. what should i do? just wait and see if he shows up? we have 3 cats, and theyre nothing but moving eating machines, i dread they have already found the frog!

is it the frog that just ate the gravel? Good god man, you need to work out some simple problems.

I've seen you posting with an interest in darts, you better have your stuff together before you start buying $50.00 and up frogs!

is it on one room definatly or maybe got out to the resty opf the house.

you could put out a water bowl, for soaking.

and crickets in a jar, so the frog can see the food, but they cant escape.

then just have a red light on, and sit and wait.

I hope you find your frog.

Oh and rc, if you want to start morphing (pics at side) you have to register and Log In

first thing you need is a better lid for the tank. they can climb up the corners of the tank. and the frog is probably not far from the tank. the frog will dry out soon. and I agree with froghut. don't expand your collection until you figure out how to care for the frogs you have with no problems.

How have you got no icon or posting total?

Are you for real?

ohhh, i keep my screen names rc_racer_007 on the net and most every bb i am on. out of habbit i typed those messages with that s/n. i guess for some reason it accepted my screen name which, as i guess you can see from no icon, isnt regiestered.

thats me, i just goofed

i have a screen top on my tank it is snug. what the toad must have done was shimied up the power cord i have going to my water pump and escaped where i have the hole in the screen cut out for the cord. its a rather big hole becuase i have to make it a rectangle so i could cut the outlet plug for the pump through it. i have it covered, but i dont guess well enough.

im going to take a washer, cut one side, slip it onto the power cord and epoxy or bondo it somehow to the screen. so this will not happen again. still no sigh of the frog i fear the cats got him. but i will set out water. i even tried playing calls but nothing. i dont have a red light, what can i substitute for it?

btw, i dont plan on purchasing any darts until late september or october. so i have more then enough time to plan, build, and maintain their habitat and fruit flys instead of rushing into the firebellys like i did.

i thought i gathered enough info and such but i did not. rueful.

you'll know when they poop, that's how I know they found another anole in the house, I can only save so many. But seriously.

Which reminds me... Almost all of them I keep have just about doubled in size. I do have to say, If you want a pet that you dont mind not being able to hold all the time. And are relatively easy to care for. I would suggest anole's. Just make sure you have a big enough tank if you get newly (wc) one's cause the males get rather territorial sometime's and chase each other half the day. (My pesonal preferance for them is the Cuban Brown Anole's, they have gorgeos marking's. For an anole at least.)

um... i know this post comes a wee bit late... but watch your cats... if they find this frog before you... it can make one very sick and they can spread that to the other cats and its a big ol mess and bloody expensive and potentially fatal... so... been there done that was't fun. your not alone

and i dunno guys... maybe its just me... but lighten up ok... not everyone can be as utterly mistakeless as you... lets just remember back to when you were a beginner... try to be kind with your words... they can make or break someone and this web site isn't here for you to cut other memebers down.

hey amber thanks. i think we all need that reminder every few months. we get big heads if not lol. and iamaj i owe you an apology for my words with you on ks. that forum makes me crazy sometimes. but really, i'm sorry and i can see that you are trying to make things right. and it's good you decided to wait a while on the darts. there are plenty of members here who own them and can answer all your questions about them. just keep asking and don't worry about what others think. every question is a good question.

thats ok, i did step out of bonds on that one post and apologized for it.

uhhhhhh like what should i for in the cats..........

it was a very small firebelly say and inch or less in length. what are symptoms? should we take them to the vet. now im really worried.

or maybe i shouldnt. my sister left her hamster on my parents bed, and if feel asleep, like 2 nights ago and our smallest cat was licking it, lol.

ROTFL thats cute about the hammy

yeah don't worry too much about the cats but if they get lathargic or stop eating or pooping or sleep loads vomit etc (were talking extremes)... but its pretty noticable when you are looking for the symptoms so don't worry too much just keep your eyes open for it... and its possible that they wont even get sick even if they do find that frog for ya so the chances are small... but i know it took me by complete surprise when my cats got sick.

and don't worry ALL my frogs have escaped at some point... some i found... some are still mia :-S some my moms cats got and well... cats aren't good at returing things... alive.

and ty dana i do appreciate that!

I dont even let my cats out in the garage or my room (half of the garage walled up). But they do like to get anything small that comes in bug's mice, reptile's etc. you should be ok. It's rare for them to get real sick. Make's the poop really nasty though. lol.

lol only reason to be really worried about this frog since its so small is cuz it has more of a potant toxin that any other frog of its size... and it lives in a watery environment so salmanilla can be carried on these ones even more... my moms cat got one of my firebellies once and got pretty darn sick and i just remember how hard that was getting her better and watching her in pain that i just thot id post that as a warning... is all

how long did it take from the time of the escape till the cat got sick? all of ours seems fine.

call me sick. but i think my other 2 frogs like it now that the other is gone. the other fbt was nearly always a dark dark green now he is really light and color and they seem to be romping around more now.

lol... you sicko... kidding kidding... yeah maybe they had a grudge against the other little toad and he felt hurt and thats why he ran away

well we know the frog escaped exactly at 2 am one nite... cat got a hold of it around 3 am... and a day and a half later to 2 days later she was sick as a dog (heh pardon the pun) and we didn't realize it was very serious till about 3-4 days after that... so its a matter of when the cat gets it to when hes sick... if they seem fine... awesome... i just know they loooooooooooooove to hunt things... heh i used to keep baby mice as pets... and they would get big enuf to learn how to jump out of a 10 g aquarium... and we all know how mice are in a house free roaming... so i just sent out one cat per mouse and pry the poor things out of their jaws later... they grew up to be nice happy healthy mice that would stand up to my moms cats and scare them.. it was pretty funny. i dunno what the point of that story was but... im bored... so... you have to endure it

well when i had the duct tape on it, the area that was open was a bit more because of where i take it on and off to clean or feed them. but i have never seen them get any higher then a 1/2 off the water. still it got out. i searched the tank over and over and he wasnt there. and if im right, he was the only guy and my other 2 where females. so no more calling well with what little bit i actully heard.

btw, duct tape doesnt fix every thing contrary to popular beleif.

they can climb up the corners. trust me. if you have a fine mesh screen lid and truthfully I hope you do then no escapes. if there is a cord for a filter cut the cord about 6" from the plug. cut a hole in the screen just big enough for the cord from the filter. then use wire nuts and splice the wires back together. should be enough slack in the wire to be able to lift lid up and put behind tank.

no no no no no!!!! do not use marks method with the wire nuts or tape. (I am an electrician). That is a fire hazard. The safest way and its not real dificult is to cut the plug off and get a replacement plug end they are not very hard to put on. If you dont think you could to do it; go to home depot or an electrical store and you can read up in the home improvment books there, or contact me and I can explain it to you. A monkey (or amber) could swich one poperly.

I don't suppose you've heard your FBT calling? When mine escaped he made the mistake of jumping on a plastic bag. Then he was climbing the curtains. The curtains were green, and we think he thought he was invisable or something. I hope you find him!!

The night I caught my cubans one of them managed to slip out of my hands and get behind a couch and disappear. I woke up the next morning to the faint sound of him moving "stealthly" on a plastic garbage bag then I heard a thump as he tried to jump through a closed door that leads outside (not even see through...) then a little more rustling. He didnt even try to run anymore when I tried to get him. Poor guy musta been pooped. lol.

with the screen lid you can always pull up the rubber that holds it into the frame, cut a slice to slip the cord in then replace the rubber in the screen. You can use a butter knife to push the rubber back in or invest in a screen repair kit. They only cost a couple bucks.

Really sorry you never found the little guy. I kept checking on the kingsnake.com site to see if you had good news in your post.
