First time frog owner. Got a nice ExoTerra tall set up for Christmas - coco substrate, purified bottled water, plenty of logs/plants, baby crickets with calcium power, monitored temp and humidity, nice water dish etc. Did my research and prepared before selecting 2 WTF from local pet shop.
They were doing great for the first two weeks or so, then one started acting lethargic and seemed like maybe it wasn't getting enough to eat, though it seemed a normal size. The next day it seemed to fall off of a branch, and within the hour it became completely emaciated and died. It literally shriveled up.
At that point, I took everything out of the habitat except for the substrate and washed it with warm water, including the walls of the habitat. Other WTF seemed fine for a week or so, then I noticed it too was not eating the crickets or the mealworms. It was also spending most of it's time on the substrate and no longer climbed. Seemed to be getting skinny. Thought maybe it wasn't getting access to the water dish in its weekend state, so I put him in for a soak, which seemed to help a bit. He hopped out after a while and back on to the substrate. Within the hour, it also became extremely emaciated and died.
What is going on here? It there a problem with my habitat or my process? Thouhgt I was doing everything right. I called the petstore where the WTFs came from and they said no other problems have been reported with their animals. Seems like my two WTFs had some kind of illness or were exposed to something lethal. The last one to die did seem to have more reddish legs than usual on his last day, but I don't recall that being the case on the first.
Help! I want to get a couple more frogs and try again, but I want to be sure it is not something I am doing wrong that caused them to die.
