I had a batch of what I believe to now be Cuban Tree frogs. Two of my tadpoles have already become a froglet and two were about to morph. One of the ones that was about to morph has always had very strange legs and even when it's arms sprouted (one at a time) they didn't look normal.. The legs especially, stick completely out to the sides and didn't seem to function like my other froglets. This morning I noticed that this particular tadpole/froglet was just floating in the water. It looked dead except there were bubbles forming around it's mouth. So I bumped it a little and it moved its tail, but just a little bit. On a hunch, I scooted it over to land and it started trying to climb.. I helped it a little more, and it pulled itself up on the wall all the while barely moving its legs. I think it was drowning before I came out and saved it. It then tried to climb over the wall and landed on the side of the container. I knew this probably wouldn't be very comfortable for this poor froglet if it had legs that didnt work well, so I put it in a seperate container with wet paper towels for substrate so I could watch it. It seems to be doing OK so far now, but it walks pretty funny with its legs.. I'm wondering what could be wrong with them?? Is it just a "handicap" froglet? Has anyone seen this before?? I've attached this picture so you can see that something strange is sticking out where the knee caps would be.. ANY help would be awesome!

some of it could be environmental factors or diet that has led to the deformity.

survival of the fittest, I would have culled it, and the one that you had helped out of the water...life is not going to be easy for him, not saying in a captive environment that he couldn't survive...guess you could try it and see how long he makes it.

Yes.. Now that he is an actual froglet he moves around quite nicely he climbs and walks well, but does not hop very good at all.. Just sort of bumps forward.. I don't think he's ready to eat yet.. But when he is, i'm afraid he won't be able to catch his food.. We'll see I guess. I have 2 right now perfectly healthy, but the two that came after this one didn't make it.. It almost seems like they crawled out too soon because there was no consistency to their legs or , the like no bones. They didn't look healthy. I thought they were from the same batch, but since frogs lay hundreds of eggs, I would assume they can't all be perfect. Thanks for the help!

It looks like toes from extra feet on his knees. It would be best to let this one pass on.

I will if he wont eat.. But right now he's doing OK besides the fact that he doesnt hop... Just scoots.. But he climbs very well and is in fact growing, just still has those little nubs sticking out.. He doesnt seem to be in any pain, so I dont want to kill him if he's not suffering.. What do you think??

I think if he cant and wont eat then you will need to let him pass he will be in a better place with all the bugs he couldd eat, all the grass he could play in with his new buddies, and im pretty sure he will not be deformed in hevan, anyway take care of him!

I love my frogs, Scamp: my little girl, Little B: my Bouncing boy, and Missy: my swimming girl... :)
