hes not gonna eat from your hand sweetie ill tell you that for sure. give him an electolyte soak. put him in some water, and put a few drops of pedialyte in the water. JUST A FEW DROPS, TO MUCH WILL HURT HIM. use an old butter tub to soak him in. im sure somebody else will chime in to help.

I have used pedialyte on my turtles before, and it did help them to start eating. I also used it on one of my Megophrys. I think probably 10 to 1 ratio is a good rule of thumb for amphibians. 1 drop of pedia lite for every ten drops of water.

What type of enclosure do you have him in now?

You should keep it slightly warmer than usual and cover the sides and front. Make sure there are plenty of hides and plant cover.

For feeding, what size crickets are they? They should be approximately the size of the distance between the frog's eyes. Put 6 in the tank, and in the open space place an apple slice or some fish flakes to feed them and also bring them out into the open for the frog to find.

Make sure there is a nice water dish and that the water is treated or preferably bottled spring water.

Then just leave him alone. Each day mist the tank and change the water, and check for crickets. You should see that some are gone. Keep the circket food in there. Every other day add more crickets.

If you see poo then all is well. At that point, after a week you can remove the front covering, if things are still fine after a week remove another etc.

I stil have him in the same enclosure as he was in before with the other 2 CTF's... But I am waiting till tomorrow to get another tank set up to put him in temporarely.. Or should I just leave him in the current one?? Would it be less stressful to keep him where he is now???

I soaked him inthe pedilite /water mixture... and i put a apiece of apple in the open area to attract crickets...
I feed them smalls.. just a little larger then pinheads, but smaller then mediums!

Im worried since monday I am going to the US for a day.. hopefully they will be ok... I dont like to leave sick people/animals alone for to long...

Sincerely, Andrea.

Is it just crickets your feeding them? Try some Moths & Flies these may stimulate his appetite.

Be careful with the pedialyte thing. It is also the ideal medium for bacteria to grow in. It really doesn't help the frog except for the glucose that can give him a little more pep...hopefully enough to be interested in food again.

How many crickets are you using? That cage would be a great place for crickets to hide and you would actually need to feed more than usual as they may not get them.

You may try to put them in a ceramic tall-sided dish or smooth plastic tub like those Gladware things, that way they are contained and can be easily found.

Also check to make sure that they are the correct size. Too small and they won't go for them, about the size of the distance between their eyes, maybe a bit bigger.

What are the temps and humidity in the tank? If you need more heat you can place a table lamp next to the tank for additional heat.

You can purchase electrodize with d3 and electrolytes at almost any petstore. It's the herp version of pedialyte, and its cheaper and designed for animals, not humans. So the measurements are precise and not guessing like it is with pedialyte. You add a few drops per so many ounces of water, directions are on the bottle. I suggest purchasing a bottle of this stuff as it never goes bad and one bottle will last for years.

Joseph - Restoring an ill frogs electrolytes will help boost an appitite. Electrodize and Pedialyte contain electrolytes which the frogs absorb as they soak. So it is more than glucose although pedialyte does contain that whereas electrodize does not.

A good thing to try to feed frogs that aren't eating are wax worms. Frogs absolutely love them. They are like twinkies for frogs. Not something you feed regularly because they are high in fat, but great for packing on some weight for skinny frogs.

You could also try field plankton. Here is an article I wrote some time in the past regarding feeding amphibians.

http://talkto.thefrog.org/index.php?action=vthread &forum=15&topic=9947

Crickets really aren't the greatest thing to feed frogs. Earthworms are much more nutritious and contain less chitin.

thanks you guys! You all have some great advice!!
So far since I have a 1litre bottle of pedilite.. I am using that, i am just being careful on the amounts!!
I might try wax worms.. But I'm worried if i feed him the wax worms.. if there is enough nutrients in it, even though it will make him fat, it might now be super healthy.. whats ur thoughts on that?? and i'll keep you informed on how that goes..
I am going to the states tomorrow.. so this is bad timing.. hopefully all goes well, while im gone..

Sincerely, Andrea.

I would feed wax worms until your frog puts on weight. It's a good building up food. Plus, frogs usually like to take them even if they wont take something else.

I have also been told that termites are like candy to reptiles and amphibians. but to feed termites I would put him in a sterile environment with very little for termites to hide as they can be potentially harmful to a house. To find termites just go walking in the woods and look for damp pieces of rotting wood.

SassyGurl, be careful feeding it just wax worms. They are addictive to a point. We did this with a fussy leopard gecko and she refused all other food items except wax worms. They are not that healthy a feeder, so dont just feed them alone. Use them to stimulate appetite, then offer other food items as normal.

<<UPDATE>>

So my lil guy finally ate something today!! I was soooo excited and started to even do a lil dance!! hehe.. So now hopefully he will continue to eat..
He wouldnt eat wax worms.. so he ended up eating a cricket. I put some really tiny pinheads in there..and he ate one of the larger pinhead. Its a start.

Sincerely, Andrea.
