Is there anything you can do to help a frog with impaction, other then the vet? I've heard soaking them in tepid water can help is that right?

My very large WTF of two years swallowed a peice of bark last night before I could get it off him. It wasn't massive, but large enough. I managed to get coco fibre bedding for hiom yesterday (they guy who ordered it for me finally came through) so the bark is going bye bye.

I soaked him for about 15 mins in tepid water and plan on doing it again tonight. He seems ok so far, is hopping around and soaking himself ( I assume to self medicate) but if theres anytrhing else I can do to help I want to do it.

Also is it best not to feed him until I see poop?

Soaking him in warm water will help him pass a bowel movement. Elevating the temperature will stimulate his bowels to move.

If after 2 weeks or more you haven't seen a bowel movement you could try feeding baby applesauce to stimulate a bm.

I don't think there is cause for alarm yet. Continue with warm baths if you desire, but there isn't any cause for panic till at least a week has passed.

Continue feeding as usual to keep the digestive tract working as usual, that will stimulate him to go as well.

Kittenclaw, thank you for your reply.

I am very attached to my Lumpyfrog, and I would be very very sad if I lost him. I will watch him very carefully. his substrate is being changed tonight so it should be easy to see poops.

Thank you for reassuring a very worried froggie mom

As kitten mentioned . . not a time to panic yet. He may even pass the bark. Let us know how things turn out!

It's great that you care so much about your frog. Keep up the good work.

You may want to place him on a paper towel substrate for a few weeks to make sure you spot any BM he manages to produce.

I had a toad pass a huge woodchip impaction, so don't worry. It isn't always fatal.

Good job Karasu2!!! Keep that up a few more times and he should be fine. I had a tokay gecko eat an entire piece of bark the size of a large cricket and she passed it a few weeks later. I thought for sure she would die, but she pulled through.
