Hi,
My tree frog, smiley(girl) doesn't come out every night...?

I just got a peacock frog. Is it bad to have both in the same tank. Is smiley shy?

lol I really believe that people who are not aware of the dangers of mixing need to be given more information and not simply told "never mix".

See, the thing about frogs is that they all have their own toxins in their skin. Some, like a terribilis, have more than others. These toxins may not affect the frogs of the same species (but there are exceptions, like a dirty fire belly tank) but may cause adverse reactions to frogs of different species. Some could be skin irritation, and some reactions could lead to seizures or death of the affected frog.

Never mind that each frog has miles of space in the wild, but not so much in captivity. Some frogs have very large territories and will defend them...

As well, different frogs need different conditions.

Now, I hoped this helped. And if the two frogs are of the same species then yes, it is ok to keep them together. The new frog should go through a quarantine period, the length of which depends on if the frog is wild caught or captive bred. And you need to be sure that you have enough space for both frogs.

Smiley is a White Tree Frog and Pete is a Peacock Tree Frog---they are both tree frogs I believe they need the same conditions of living ie humidity etc..

I must sound very stupid about all of this but I appreciate your help )

I would hate Smiley to eat Pete

Smiley still hasn't come out and soaked in her bowl

White's will eat just about anything that moves. Seperate the two ASAP. They may need the same conditions, but it's still very bad. The frogs may be toxic to one another and you could end up with both dying from it. =[

Hi this is Pete Member...I couldn't sign in Had to register under a different name.
To Answer your question:
Nope I do not have the extra room I have a very small place. But the pet store said I can get another WTF, the same as Smiley I disinfected the whole tank after taking Pete back.

In conclusion, I am glad that Smiley is happy again. She woke up early and was hopping around, hunting and soaking in her bowl.

PS If I ever get more room I am going to get a couple of Peacock frogs

Thank you for all of the help!
