Being in business on our own for years has made me a very calm person to deal with but I may just lose it! We've been doing this corporate restaurants hoodcleaning for 15yrs. We only do these at night and no later then 6am. I pulled up every invoice for this one store and it has been scheduled anywhere from 10pm-2am. They have a new manager since feb. 2010, she has given me nothing but crap and I've been mellow. Only complaint is from her because the guys showed up 15 min. late(they did call). She screamed at me on the phone like I have never been treated like this before. Being a nice person, I took off $50.00 from her bill. So I scheduled the cleaning to be done at 11pm on Sunday the 21st(Nov.), promise we'll be there, remind her I'm giving them the discount. Mike shows up on time, the guy in charge calls her, she starts screaming that we were supposed to be there at 11am and that they can't do the hoods, Mike calmly explains that we've never done them during the day and not during a lunch hour. She's screaming that she's calling the owner(me) in the morning because we screwed up...bull! I have a few options: A. Suck it up and give her a free cleaning to keep the peace, B. Call her Area Manager and discuss it, C. try and explain that we don't work after 6am.
No matter what , I'm livid and on edge about dealing w/ this and I can't sleep!

Do "B". No one should ever talk to anyone like that. Temper tantrums have no place in the work place. Clearly she doesn't want to listen to you, so bring this up to her boss, maybe then she'll listen and pull her head out of her pa-too-tie.

Definitely option B... go over her head and do not deal with her if that is how she is going to be.

Sorry Michelle... some people just really suck! It's people like her that make me dread going back to work! LOL

Called the Area manager and he was cool. I explained what happened and that I was concerned about treatment of my guys and that I will have no issue with speaking to someone being professional but not being screamed at. He apologized and we rescheduled the store between us. He said she was new but that the behavior was unprofessional.

Michelle, I am wondering whether she was trying to get you to drop the contract with that restaurant in favor of someone of her choosing? It sounds too irrational, although I have worked for irrational restaurant managers in the past. But not for long -- I quit. (It was my third of three jobs, and I did not actually need it, except to keep me out of my apartment -- I had loathesome roommates....) I realize that quitting is not a good business practice for you, but that really, really sounds suspicious to me. If she does all of her managing like that, I should hope she is not long for the job. Customers don't like to hear that kind of thing going on. I do not eat out to listen to restaurant staff shouting at each other. Or at anyone.

She's only the store manager for one store(we have 25 stores for this corp.) and we have a corporate contract. The big guy loves us so that helps. She 's going to learn quick how to deal w/ people.

Good, I'm really glad to hear that. There are too many restaurant owners/managers that think that they can just bully people (staff) into doing what they want.
