So I've been seeing all these ads for dog/cat sitters around, and I was thinking of offering to care for exotics for folks. I've seen a lot of threads over the years here asking about taking vacations, and I know I could have used someone who knew what they were doing from time to time!

Just wondering if anyone here has done something like this? Wondering what I should charge for that type of thing?

Raven, I did it in HS when it was still pretty new and I worked @ a pet store. So I constantly had connections.

I would find out what sitters charge per visit for dogs and cats. Some get $10-25 a visit. I'd play off that.

Since you won't be required to walk it or let it out.. You may not have to have insurance. Just keep quiet.

Charge for the food, vet visits etc get a flat rate trip charge or you can go by the mile.

My moms business doesn't get those request, its all cats, dogs and a bird. But that doesn't mean you can't get some business going!

When I need a sitter I usually pay them $20/day. Each habitat has a card attached to it identifying the critters within, the temps/humidity that should be present, and the type and frequency of feeding. That way all the sitter has to do is read the card. I don't expect them to do any cleaning other than a daily water exchange or really anything other than the above. I've had good luck with sitters; usually women in late twenties or early thirties who aren't squeemish about worms, etc.

The thing I'm worried about is references...there's no way to get references that you're trustworthy until you've done it! Arg.

Just tell them u tended to the Queen of Englands Royal Water Snake, Pimples.

I mean, hello?! Are they going to call The Queen to check!? That's an easy fix.
