I have a dilemma...I own 6 Red Eye Tree frogs and 1 Reinwardtii. I have normally fed them 2 1/2 week old crickets from Ghann's. They would be a about 3/8" in size, not quite 1/2 inch. I thought they were a perfect size for my frogs. But since I have found a local store to sell me a box of 1,000 crix for $20 and I save on shipping and it's convenient because I can go any Friday of any week and they will have a shipment. But the problem is, they don't sell 2.5 week old crix. They sell 2 week old which are 1/8" to 1/4" in the box and they sell 3 week old crix which last time I bought were way too big. They were 1/2" and above. Some were chirping! This too me is too big for the frogs, they seem disgusted while eating them, plus the inconvenience of keeping them because they stink at that size if not kept up with every few day.

So, my question is. Is it okay that I'm feeding them such tiny crickets at 1/8" and 1/2" and can I continue to do so? Or should I go with the 3 week 1/2 inch and larger crickets?

What size crickets do you feed your red eyes?

In my experience if you don't gradually bump up the size prey the frogs slow down growing. Also I have never seen a frog make a pleasant face while eating. Typically the length of the prey should be no larger than the width of the frog head, Bill

Well, all my frogs are pretty much full grown. So, I don't have to worry about their growth, but I do worry about malnutrition. Oh, I have seen them struggle and be disgusted with large crickets. I think I have a video of it...
Yeah, I found it...look at about 1:14 on this video:

Thanks for your input Bill. Wow, large adults. In my experience they usually leave those in their tank until the die. I've never seen one of my frogs eat a large adult. Although it's been rare I feed them adults. It's been mostly that the crickets are already kind of big and they grow to be adults in the tank. They hang out until they die and then they stink badly. That is why I stopped going near the adult size crickets.

Those are normal faces. They use their feet to guide their food.
