This is getting old, for almost a year now I cannot get crikets.
It seems crikets got a virus causing them to die before they mature.
I am now loosing frogs. I need crikets Does anyone know some place?
The ones going to pet stores like petco are infected too. I have big wtf's I hate feeding mice

I still get mine online and have not had problems.

What about picking them up at shows or trying a non "chain" pet store.

better yet... Roaches. Easy to breed, no smell, no virus.

Have you been feeding mice for a year?

I sometimes go to my own little world, but that's okay, they know me there

no, not for a year. They have been once a month & I don't like it.
I have small whites & some milks that really need crix.
I ordered from some place in ca. but they have the same virus. It is only a matter of time. I dont have time to find a show, I live too far away from them & everyone one west coast is infected.
I never thought about roaches, where are those?
these guys wont eat wax or mealworms. I guess I will look for roaches. YEAK
This is sucky, dont they get big & into everything?

Roaches. Easy to breed, no smell, no virus.
It is so worth it. Dubia Cockroaches are breeder colony type. They really give you alot of nymphs that can be fed to your tree frogs.

If you live out in the middle of nowhere, then try a feed store. that's where I get mine from.

Once a month is WAY too often for them. If you are losing frogs from the lack of crickets, then the diet is not varied enough to start with.

Like P-Chop said, roaches are the way to go. They breed extremely quick, no smells, quiet, as well as a better meat to shell ratio.

I keep four roach species and love being cricket free. Blatta lateralis and Nauphoeta cinerea are great species for most tree frogs. Blaptica dubia get way too big for most frogs and will burrow instead of climb, not the best choice in this case.

lots of tree frog keepers use dubias. Size is dependent what age you feed them off at.

I use both dubias and lobsters myself, but also have larger frogs.

What about various worm species? Which you can pick up at pet stores, walmarts, bait shops, and maybe even feed stores.

Night crawlers are awesome feeders. I get mine from Walmart, 3 bucks for a container.

ghanns is the best cricket company IMO if you don get any roaches dee. the heat may be the issue but have them overnighted and held at a main fedex hub. I just ordered 11 thousand this week. all arrived perfect. they dont have the virus and do live if cared for properly. if you have ever listed a for sale ad etc you can get on the breeders program and get like 1000 for 4 bux plus shipping. for 11 thousand crickets i paid about 58.00 shipped overnight to Mn. and yep i do go through them all. everyone is very well fed here. just a thought. i know they are not guaranteeing the live arrival due to their temps but if its 92 or below in their area (atlanta GA) then i havent had any issues being held at mainfedex hub. not a kinkos.

turkistans are what roaches i breed and all my tree frogs go nuts over them. fast suckers. gets a good hunting response from the tree frogs unlike dubia do. for some reason my tree frogs such as the A.annae and the waxy's need that extra movement. easy to breed, fast and cheap. just dont let any escape if in a hotter area where u live.

These are all good Ideas, what is "dubias and lobsters". I try to vary the food for this reason. I have been resourceful & they dont go a month without food. Thats just how often they get crix. They show no interest in anything that moves slow. It is funny watching them eat earth worms tho.
My milks are only 2" they need smaller food.
I will try ghanns, & look into the roach thing more

you guys are great sometimes asking helps.
my whole problem is collage full time & my dependable source has been out of crix for months. I have fed everything I can find. But the frogs let the worm burrow. I had to keeps pulling them out of the ground cover. It is kind of creepy having full grown wtf jumping at your hand with their mouth open.
I am going online to learn about roaches

i have talked to ghanns. they said to me that other cricket companies have the virus problems and they have tried to keep up with the increased demand. Thus were short on crix for a bit. However they didn't have the virus as far as i know. I got every size this week (11,000 crickets) like i usually order. all my crix live their lifespan minus the occasional normal death of a few here and there. havent had any issues and on the breeders program all sizes have been available to me and others... so i dunno lol. i just know the crix are the best quality IMO at ghanns and the best prices through the breeder program. they are clean, healthy crix IMHO. no extra hitchikers when you get an order and they are always very overcounted. n so thats all i know from what they have told me and what i have experienced

My local Petsmart ran out of crikets as well. I believe this is the first time Ive seen them out of stock.
So I bought some green floating mineral pellets or something, but my frog wasnt eating them.

What have you been feeding your guys?

I cought a few flys and spiders here and there for my tree frog. he seems to love them.
I even tricked my tree frog into eating the mineral pellets.

I bribed my daughter to use a net and catch grasshoppers.
I order some from Ca. Tuesday but they still are not here so I won't be using them anymore.
I was going to try roaches, but I just don't think so. ew
Wax worms are too fatty,I will keep looking. those earth worms are soo funny to watch. the frogs stare at them. are they to fatty to?

Catching wild prey is always a risk. Anything from pesticides, herbicides, fungi, parasites, petroleum, etc are all possibilities.

Night crawlers are fine. I use them as one of my staples, as do many others.

dee you really got to get on the breeders program at ghann.com call them. then its 4-7.00 per 1000 crix. the more crix the less they cost. shipping overnight for 11,000 crix ( and not pinheads i ordered 1/2 inch, large and 1/4 inchers) was like approx 58.00 shipped on the breeders program. thats overnight shipping too via fedex.

edit: p.s. if your temps are too hot at times ( above 85) have them hold your crix at a main fedex near you ...not a kinkos... you'll be very happy ordering from ghanns i think. healthy very well taken care of crix and nice overcounts not to mention the savings

Not sure about those... pellets for frogs...

Thats all they had. No crikets. So I had to get the next best thing there.
He/she seems to be doing ok at the moment with those pellets.
I'll be checking in to see if they got any crikets though.

They carry them in a can as well. Same with grasshoppers. Pellets are garbage.
