I have a young pac man frog, he is about 4 months old and is about an inch/inch and a half big.

I'm a bit worried he hasn't grown as much as he should, we were told to feed him by hand using tongs and at the begining he ate well, 1-2 crickets a day.

He would go the odd few days without eating. But a few weeks ago he stopped eating for a week at a time and we went on holiday and let my boyfriends dad look after him who just left crickets in the tank, many of which were in the tank dead when we came back. Now he rarely eats and if he does he tends to spit the cricket out a few times before swallowing it.

How much should he be eating and what can we give him to vary his diet?

Thanks

I love when my budgett's frog's meal pops out and he has to use his little froggie hands to push it back in hah. I'm new to being a frogmommy myself but am having a similar issue. Have you tried any worms?

what can we give him to vary his diet?

Crickets, Butterworms, Waxworms, Superworms, Nightcralwers, Hornworms, Silkworms, Dubia Cockroaches.
Most of my Frogs really like Nightcrawlers. You can buy them at bait shops and some Walmarts will sell them too.

The thing to remember about pacman frogs is that they aren't overly active, so they can go for some time without food. I have two, one is a "fantasy frog" and is very fussy about his food and does not like to eat often. The other is an Ornate pacman and loves to eat everything that moves, even fingers. Sometimes different species of pacman frogs have different types of appetites. Some are good eaters, others are not. Do you know what species of pacman you have?

Are you able to post photos of your frog and his enclosure? Also what are his temperature/humidity in his terrarium?

We have an ornate pacman. The temperatue is always about 80-87F i'm not sure about the humidity. The woman at the shop never mentioned it and it wasn't in any of the information she gave us. Sorry probably sounds like we are we uncaring.

We were debating to get a heat mat but the temperature seemed to stay high enough so we didn't get one. But maybe we should.

Here is lemon in his tank,

Thanks

heatmat isnt proper for these frogs as they sometimes want to burrow to reach colder spots, and the heatmat will be the oposite
I would take that moss out , specially if you leave crickets wandering around.. baby pacmans are VERY prone to impactions

about the feeding problem, I have had the very same problem and the frog didnt make it either altho I force feed it pheonix worms, dubias and offered crix.. it seems that the pacmans i have are either very good eaters, or bad eaters
i also found that if they re agressive when you first see them in their deli cup, the chances they will be good eater are higher but thats probably just me

How's Lemon doing?

Sandy: good point about activity level v. intake. I'm worried about my budgetts frog right now but they are pretty inactive so I guess he doesn't need to eat too much too frequently so that's a relief.

He still isn't really eating. We are going to move him into a much bigger tank with a few more bits in it for him. hopefully that will cheer him up though he still hasn't grown and he pooped out a who worm the other day which makes me worry about his digestion.

now i know this is a very gross question, but you're sure the whole worm came out of him? maybe he just never ate it, or put it in his mouth and spit it out?

trevor just finally ate after 5 1/2 weeks. the first night he wanted to eat again he ate 2 superworms and the next night 1. so maybe these type of inactive frogs know what they're doing and we shouldn't push it? i really have no idea hah. How long has it been for Lemon? And how old about is he?

but your idea to move to a bigger enclosure can't hurt IMHO.

Good luck!
