How often do you feed your whites tree frog mealworms?

I actually stay away from mealworms. They have a crusty shell and I worry too much about impactions. I stick to crickets and the very odd superworm.

One of the grils that works at the pet shop i go to has a whites, and her frogs' staple diet is mealworms and butterworms. Crickets are an occasional treat when her room mate is out of the house.
My whites won't eat mealworms. However if i let the mealies turn into beetles, then he will eat the beetle. He likes things that skitter and move about quickly.

You should tell your friend to change her WTFs diet....so it will have a longer life. Mealworms have too hard of a shell and are more shell then actual meat.
Crickets should be a staple diet for WTF. I have had a WTF group for about 10 years now. They eat crickets and sometimes Superworms(more meat to shell). Also medium crickets are the best to feed...they get more of a hard shell when they are adults.

i dunno if it is a myth, but i once read that mealworms, if not killed by you or the frog when eaten, could eat their way through your frog! my mealworms can eat their way through my plastic delicups so I have no reason not to beleive this! + I have seen some people saying they re loaded with parasites.... there is no reason to beleive what a petshop employees tell you, they VERY often dont know anything bout frogs and will just answer what they "think"... mealworms are BAD BAD BAD, stay away from these, even as a treat
roaches and crickets are the best staple food for WTF
I've had this spring peeper for over 4 years..!

Its a myth, easy way to prove it too, take a small amount of water on your hand and place the mealworm in it. Make a fist keeping the water with the mealworm in it. May move for a sec or two but they quickly die.
If a pet store says it, it must be true right?
