I would like to take the time to remind all of our previous members as well as inform all of our new members why this forum was started and what it's main goal is. It has become blatently obvious to me that too many people have forgotten or are totally unaware completely.
This forum was started so that all people who are seeking to provide an animal - mainly frogs - with the best care and life they can. This is looked upon as the responsibilty of the keeper and has never been something that those who were involved with starting this forum have ever taken likely - nor will they ever.
Granted, thru the process many great friendships, as well as some great dislikes, have been formed. And while they have their positive and negative points, that is not the main objective of this forum.
It has always been a very strong point that if you do not uphold this same sense of responsibility, this is not the place for you. PERIOD. There are many other forums out there, this isn't the one for everybody and anyone who doesn't like the feel of talkto.thefrog.org is very welcome not to participate.
It has also always been very clear that we are all expected to conduct ourselves with maturity and respect of others. I realize, as does everyone else that we all have our bad days and slip ups happen - that's life. However the behavior of some members - both new and old - as of late is complettely threatening this forum's existence. Cate has always made it quite clear that if keeping things in order here are more trouble than they are worth, the forum will be closed. I, for one, have invested too much time, energy, care, emotion, compassion, etc to see that happen. And I have said before, and will say again now, that if certain members choose blatently not to abide by the standards, I will gladly ban whomever I deem necessary to prevent the close of this forum.
I hope I have made my point clear to all. This is not a power trip at all, I am not any better than any other member who chooses to abide by the standards of this forum. I do take that very seriously however, and do have the abillity to take whatever actions are deemed fit.
I will now say that for our Moderators......there is a specific forum for us to address each other in. I do not care to ever see one Mod calling out another in the open forum, that is not necessary or acceptable. I will be making a post there in more specifics for our Mods to see.
Secondly, as mods of this forum, we are still human and do have emotion. Life can get the better of us at times as well. There will be no tolerance of blatent disrespect or antagonization of mods expecting that, since they are mods, they can not react to such behavior.
The specific incident that has brought this post on was IMO one where someone was acting irresponsibly with the care of their frog and everyone has every right to make their disapproval of such actons known. This is not mean - the improper care of a frog is mean to the frog - that is what we are here to prevent. I do not wish to see any snide remarks to anyone who expresses such concern. Esp when such concern was expressed in a polite and acceptable manner IMO.
I have always welcomed all new members and will forever continue to do so. I will not however tolerate new members coming on here and making constant waves and turbulence. I will, as I always have, politely explain my stance, and ask that it not happen again. If the member can not abide, they will be banned. Period.
I believe that is enough said.
If anyone has any questions or comments in regards to this post, feel free to post here or mail me in private @ becki@froggie.info .
Thank you.
Becki

I would like to make a public apology...

I was not aware at the time of posting that I seemed to target Whitney... that was not my intent at all. It was merely a broad comment on these little flare ups.

I'm sorry Whitney... and I'm sorry everyone else.

It's fine, I just was a little shocked. I understand now that your post wasn't directed at me, I know how it is to have posts misconstrued and such, so I just appreciate your apology and clarification. As they say on MTV, "We straight!"

My post was completely out of shock and desperation for the poor frog. I apologize for casting the spark that started the fire. Those of you that know me know I stay reserved most of the time and don't flair. I was just weak for a moment, please accept my sincere apologies.

is this post going to be stickied?i think all members should definately have to read this post. maybe we can do something about some of the newer members nonsense?maybe a disclaimer or such before joining? i joined what seems like ages ago and i dont know if there was something like that before entering. the thing is alot of the newer members are really nice and mean well they just get a little off track because the way we flow around here isnt what theyre used to i suppose. but i mean we've all had to get into the groove, and everyone else should too. most new forumers are also very nice and will take good advice and really are here for the wellbeing of our animals. i hope more and more people join like that.

i would like to apologize for most of my posts which i know were seen as insensitive, and probably were cruel. i dont, however, take them back because i feel some things i said needed to be said whether they were taken the way i meant to or not. oh well,im rambling. have fun everyone!

The moderators are working on something for all of the new members so they aware of proper forum decorum and also that Big Brother is watching. However, the older members must accept that things change, and that change is not ness. a bad thing, and also that the sterotype that all of the past trouble makers were "kids" must change. There are a lot of responsible members here that are 13 and up, so let's steer away from that generalization.

Yes, but because a behavior can be associated with some individuals, it is not indicitive of all of them.

I too apologize for making the generalization. Perhaps we will simply refur to the behaviour as being immature rather than the person.

I think that some people post things that are meant to inflame others, to try and start hijinks on message boards. I see it on here, and also on other boards that I go to. I really think that the best course of action is to ignore people like that. When people type frivolous, half-baked questions, without specifying what kind of frog they have, etc. then I will simply ignore it.
I love this board, and love helping people out with their froggy inquiries. I hope it is around for many more years to come! Sure, there will be the occasional flareups, but the majority of people on this board really rock!

Perhaps it would help to know how old the poster is. Sometimes youngsters just can't keep quiet, and want to say something just to remind you they are there. Is there any way of explaining to them in private, that these posts are simply irritating and they should confine themselves to their particular problems or interests, and respond only when they have something they really want to say? They don't always read or understand the initial agreement and putting them down in a public manner only angers and embarrasses them. These are among the people we all want to educate (along with ourselves, of course), so they will be either responsible frog keepers, or cease trying. They may not know to specify the kind of frog they have and the conditions they have attempted to keep it in when they first post. I'd suggest a little more patience with the youngsters who post in capital letters. Some of them just need someone to talk to-- and the general forum is about that. After all, there have been some very personal problems presented there in detail. I've noticed a distinct lack of insults and flaming on that section.

It's understood among us, that this section is the outlet for personal frustrations and problems, as well as sharing personal joys, mostly among the old guard adults. I'm not saying we should spend a lot of time on kiddy psychology-- this essentially a forum about frogs, not kids, but maybe just do more explaining to them before they are banned. It's too bad that the most important people these kids have to talk to or irritate are old farts on an internet forum. Where the hell are their parents when they get a frog then screw up caring for it?

Their parents don't care, because most people see frogs are disosable pets. They'll keep the frog till it dies regardless of the care then get a new one and keep the process going. I used to see people do it all the time, and I'm sure those of you who work at the pet shops see it even more.
