I think I have 8 frogs that may have the springs disease, which is caused by a bacterium called ranicida. I don't know for sure but sympoms seem in the upper hand, already lost two, and think a third is on its way.

Most interent searches bring back nothing and a friend of mine which is the wisconsin dnr herpetologist, is hunting up north, my friend thats a vet is in Colorado skiing. SO, Im sol. any ideas?

Frogger.... I lost 3 frogs to this a few months ago... there is no real way to treat it but I spoke to a reptile expert who suggested antibiotics. I actually had some ammoxicillian here so I opened a capsule took out a SMALL SMALL amount and put alittle on the crickets. He also told me to put alittle in their water. They were northern green frogs which lived in a 50/50 split water/land tank. This is the only suggestion I was able to find because there is no real cure for it. And unfortunately it didn't work work out and I slowly lost all 3. Since it is a bacteria the only hope is an antibiotic.

Thanks Northern. Is this contagious from cross contamination from one species to another? Im debating uthanizing them if the test come up positive. SUCKS!

I'd assume it would be. My 3 northerns were housed together and I lost them all within a weeks time. I'd suggest euthanizing if it does come up positive. The end is terrible. I felt so bad for my little guys, but we did try until the end.

Hey Fwo, its actually not visible. Its the most unknown disease in frogs, and I have asked expert upon expert about identification of it, treatment, etc.. and no one has anything on it. So, Im trying out different drugs. Ill keep you posted.

We can't help without a lot more information. When did it appear, how long have you had the frog, has it been exposed to any new animals, what are your keeping conditions (temp, humidity, lighting, nutrition, etc)? A pic would help a lot. It could be bacterial or fungal, but without a vet you may not know which.
