No bunnies or chicks in this house LOL Instead... Ella asked for a Hermit crab... so they both got one

This is Rocky ( Anabel originally named him Sportacus from Lazy Town... but Ella didn't like that name) It's not a very shy crab at all!

And this is Stephanie (also from Lazy Town... Ella let this one keep that name) This one hides more and will pull up into that shell at the first sign of movement right now)

And their home... They are in the 20 long I've had put away

(these pics aren't all that great because my camera battery died so I had to use my phone).

Left side

Right side (with Stephanie)

And a full view (not sure where Rocky is in this picture... I think he was in the corner with the plants)

Nice heather but you shouldn't have painted shells, whilst researching on them previously, I hear that they affect the crab's health.

fr0gcr4zy Unfortunately, they came that way... hopefully they will outgrow them and switch to one of the others I have available for them in the tank. The only colored shells are the ones they are currently wearing and I was sure to choose two that look close to outgrowing those shells.

And thank you Kristina

welcome, never heard the painted shell thing. My daughter has some and never an issue, though they did move to a more natural looking shell as they grew. great pics!

a good amount of the plants died LOL the little buggers just dug them up and gnawed on them. I guess I'll just put new ones in as needed LOL

now we are waiting for Rocky to choose a new shell. I think he may have a little more time in the dang painted one though. I'm not really concerned about the paint... I just think they look SO much cooler in a "natural" shell. Ya know?

When I kept hermit crabs, I would pick up shells from the dollar store. They had bags of Turbo Shells for $1.25, there were about 40 shells in each bag, only about 10 of them were the right size for my hermit crabs though, the rest were too tiny. Turbo shells are a favourite for them.

I just think they look SO much cooler in a "natural" shell. Ya know?
Now this is cool:

Ah fantastic. Perhaps purchasing from a stall selling such crabs were not the best of ideas Heather? If I must say, they look far more beautiful in a natural shell.

I didn't buy them from a stall selling crabs.. I bought them at a local pet shop down the street from me. Honestly... I have never seen any place around me selling them in unpainted shells. But that is why I pick and choose and selected the ones that looked like they were getting too big for those gaudy shells.

When we went on a vacation, it was really great that we caught 2 tiny hermits along the shoreline.

And though they were just right with their original environment and habitat, it was not of help that huge eaves were actually peppering the area when they were around.

Just great that we could take care and get them on our own.
