This is my first Crested Gecko. I have had him since Saturday. What an adorable, fascinating little guy he/she is! I noticed he has one sunken in eye, hardly able to tell he has an eye on the one side. I searched MANY sites to only find a few cases of this but no ideas on what it is. I am hoping someone has had a good experience to tell me! I don't remember seeing this when I picked him out, but who knows? He was very active last night, so I am hoping he will be ok.

Any questions about him just ask? I write a novel usually the way it is.

Flynn:

Good eye:

His eye socket is not red in any way like the color of this picture is showing. It does not look irritated.

Normally with dehydration, both eyes sink in an equal amount. Plus, eye sink from Dehydration will clear up rather quickly once you give them water.

I know its not what you want to hear, but I would guess its some sort of deformity.

Do you know what breeder you got the gecko from? I would contact them if you have the information.

Thanks for the reply, Kim. I actually got him from a mom and pop store who really knew nothing of their care and of course told me very bad care info on them. They will not give out breeder's names and while I asked them to contact the breeder, I doubt I will hear from them again.

I don't mind at all that he looks like he does as I am quite taken with him already. I feel bad for him though.

Just put on your pink bath robe Sheri and he will be just fine!!! Unless this is a girl Gecko! Well...maybe.....

Any way, remember the misfit toys, the gun that shot jelly, the cowboy riding the ostrich.....they need love too.

If you want the best possible answer, post the photos up on the Repashy Gecko Forum, its the largest community of crested breeders & keepers. If anyone has seen something like that before, that would be the place.

http://www.forums.repashy.com/

Or the Pangea Forum

I did a search on pangeareptile and found the only bit of info I have so far. You are right; posting my own question is a good way for a possible answer. Thanks again; I appreciate your help.

I've known a couple people with crested geckos that have eye problems. He is probably just blind in that eye. I doubt it will cause any major health concerns. It was probably caused by fighting with another gecko earlier in his life or getting poked in the eye by a branch or something similar.

I really hope you are right with this. I feel bad that he may be blind (I also thought this and after he is settled more will try to test it) but also am hoping that is the end of it and he will live a nice pampered life with me. The store I bought him from said to bring him back and they would "dispose" of him. Well, that is NOT going to happen.

Thanks for the responses.

I say take him to the vet. If all is fine, then yep its probably a deformity. If he's healthy, thats all that matters. Isn't it?
