I need an intervention. I came home with more frogs.. at least they are totally bad ass frogs.
Ass-Face Frog or Colombian Four-eyed Frog
Pleurodema brachyops
They are from Venezuela and surrounding countries.
I'm currently attempting to locate care information, so if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to pitch in.
If they are correctly mounting each other I have 2.2 The car ride home must have excited them b/c they stayed mounted 2 and 2 the entire trip.
One was also chirping in the car

A guy in Florida tried selling me some of these over the summer. His whole selling platform was the name: "Ass - faced frog", and he started laughing. I told him I wouldn't buy them if he paid me to.
They're pretty cute though, haha. Where'd you get them? They're apparently new to the trade.

You missed out Spawn, they are so damn cool!
They came from a chicago-land frog vendor that gets all sorta cool imports.
He had 12 come in, He sold 7, one died, and I bought the last 4 today.
3 of my 4 are already plowing thru crickets. the 4th guy looks a tad bit skinny compared to the others and I havn't seen him take one yet, so hopefully hes ok. I want to de-worm them all if I can figure out how to get their tiny mouths open (I wonder if i can dip my crickets in panacur and get them to eat them fast lol).
I swear the world is against me in my effort to stop buying pets, cool stuff just keeps popping up in front of me

Those frogs have faces on their asses --not asses on their faces -- and I think they should be called face-assed frogs instead of ass-faced frogs.

Per request on another forum I placed the frogs into a breeding chamber to see if they feel like having some babies.
I started them in the chamber on monday. Monday and tuesday they had a good time swimming around and digging into the gravel, but didn't go back into amplexus. Today I put on a CD of frogs calling, and 10 mins later, two of them were back in amplexus. I guess they just needed a bit of froggie porn.
And on a side note.. the water running in the breeding chamber has my eyelash frogs all excited. They have been sitting in the open both nights, and one was calling last night

So here's my update.
I emailed the vendor I got them from last friday and he had just gotten more in, so I asked him to hold at least 2 for me, and I would pick them up next show.
Yesterday I came home and the skinny one that was refusing to eat had died. I had been force feeding him trying to help him thru, but I can't say I didn't expect to lose him.
So today I drive 2 1/2 hrs to Indy to Pick up more of these guys. He had 12 of them, and disappointingly only 1 appeared female. So I picked her up along with two more males. Giving me 4.2.0
My last breeding chamber attempt ended at 5 days after one of the frogs escaped. So I re-frog-proofed it. And since I got the new female, I put all of them back into the breeding chamber this afternoon.

And here's my guide to sexing so far. The main difference is throat coloration. I may have a second thing as well, but I need to compare my other males before I can call it a definite.

Trying to. It was suggested that since they are Wild Caught, the females may be ready to breed at this time (as many frogs are collected during breeding season since the males calling make them easier to find).
So I've dug up what info on them I could, with the help of Lars from Germany, and have them in a rain chamber.
There's so little information on them, that its really just a I might get lucky type of attempt.
Lars believes they do a foam nest, the same as this video

The ass-faced frog name is definitely funny and an eye catcher, but I have overall been referring to them as Colombian Four-eyed Frog.
These are great little frogs with an amazing personality, they shouldn't need a goofy name for people to want them
I think I have neglected to ever mention their size and a few people have asked me. They are only about an Inch and a Half long. I'll grab a photo with something for size comparison next time I have my camera out.

Their temporary cage is just dirt and moss with a water dish, they spend the day time hrs dug down into the dirt.
I'm gonna set up a permanent tank for them this week, I haven't 100% decided what I'm going to do, but it will probably be a deep layer of dirt and moss, and some cork bark hides,
I'm gonna play with a heat lamp too, and see if I can find out what temperature they like to be at. Let me know what temperature you set yours at.

Nice Kim and THANKS!, because your post inspired me to get some of these today at the chicago show. Couldnt resist when jordan told me they were there. They have no problem eating thats for sure. I missed you at the indy show last week, bummer. Your gonna be so po'd when you find out what I was there to get. No telling, jordan I'm not gonna do anything special for heat, just room temp. I'll let you know what the average temp is though.
