As you probably know by now, I am from South Africa and have just acquired some native toads Amietophrynus gutturalis.
I was hoping to try and breed them, and I was wondering if anyone else had some tips for me. They share many of the same habits as Bufo americanus and they breed in the shallow part of permanent and temporary pools.
I think that they are heading closer to spawning time. My male called for the first time last night It was wonderful.
I accidentally discovered the key to breeding my toads. They breed in moving water. They went into amplexus almost a hour ago
The males of this species have a dark colored throat, and over the last few days his throat has become even darker than it used to be. Could this be a sign of spawning time approaching?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Please and Thank You,
P.S. I have photos if necessary
