I have a small trio 2.1 I am thinking of trying my hand at.
Any tips? Temps? Humidity? Anything you have tried that has failed or worked?

I use cocofiber as a substrate. Mixed with some spag moss and leaf litter. Heavily planted tank. Driftwood.
I know she keeps them but I was looking to see if any one on here has bred them yet and what worked or did not for them. ( i hope that did not come across as a smart ass, it was not meant that way at all).
I like that mine will occasionally be up during the day. Not every day btu every now and then. I started with 4 lost one. Might try and pick up some more down the road if my checkbook allows.

Novy is working with them I believe. How long have you had them? I had nose rubs with mine (years ago) and the ones that didn't have the rubs perished quickly. jvk

what is it about captivity that makes them die so easily? is it the stress of being shipped? being confined? could a HUGE enclosure fix that?

They get bacterial infections pretty easily.

what makes them get the infections so easily though? if these questions can be answered then i don't see why we can't try to improve the keeping of the species.

Certain species occupy niches, microhabitats that are poorly understood or poorly documented. Some species have specific behaviors that are unknown to enthusiasts. It is difficult to exactly replicate an animals habitat and environmental conditions in the space provided by a glass tank. Furthermore, the capture/shipping process is harder on some species than it is on others. Animals crammed together during shipping spread pathogens etc. very rapidly that in the wild would otherwise be relatively isolated etc. Got the picture? JVK

I picked mine up as WC about 6 months ago. I panacured them the first few weeks and kept them in a simple conatiner with paper towels.
No no rubs no infections so they seem to be doing well.
I hope to find a couple more in the next few months but I am also worried about adding more to my trio that seems to be doing well.
I def have 2.1 so atleast I have one female. One of the males calls almost every night.
I did buy 2 about a year ago an dthey died within 24-48 hours these ones looked pretty good when I picked them up so I just on the chance and the cheapy price ( $roughly $12 each) was pretty good as well

Yeah I would be worried about introducing more to the group you have now. At least until you get the new ones established.
Best of luck on the breeding. Would be nice to have a clutch or two come through for you.

Do you know why your first two died? I have one I just recently got and love him. Hope you are successful on breeding them.

I have no idea why the first two died. I did not really even get a chance to check out if they were eating, etc before they died.
I think I will skip adding any new ones to the ones I have.

Why don't you get new ones but keep them in a separate tank? I'm sure that after 6 months of them all being healthy you wouldn't think twice about putting them all in the same enclosure, no? I would do that if it were me.
