I have taken some spawn of common frog from the wild and it has developed into tadpoles during the last five days. I keep them in a plastic tank. Of course, first they ate their own yolk, but I think that they should start eating other things by now, as they are swimming around and no longer simply lay around their own spawn.

However, any food I have tried does not seem to provoke any kind of reaction from the tadpoles. Flakes simply float on the water surface and bottom feeder pills melt away without being touched. I have tried the following:

- frozen lettuce
- goldfish flakes
- green fish flakes for herbivors
- little flakes for young fish
- green bottom feeder pellets
- frozen artemia

I wonder whether they are actually eating the things I give them or not and simply not noticing it. Perhaps they eat little particels from water and ignore the bigger ones. I really do not know, but I had pictured their eating in my mind to be more of a cracy rush to the protein floating on the surface rather than total indifference.

What should I do or should I do nothing at all?

Also, for some reason a vast majority of them sticks on the sides of the tank, mostly near the surface. I find it hard to believe they would do this because of the oxygen, as I have a air pump on all the time and have just changed the water.

A couple suggestions...

crush the fish flake into a fine podwer and only feed a little at a time... also offer algae waffers (1 waffer per every 5 or so taddies) also... go to a fish store and get some Anacharis (oxygen weed) every taddie I raised LOVED it... you can also offer frozen blood worms (which you can get in a packet at most fish stores)

I have new tads as well. Although it does not look like they are even eating , their itty bitty little sucker mouths pick up teeny tiny particles. I have a water plant in my tank for oxygen and they have been chomping on that pretty well as new tads love vegetation and algae.

I also use the flakes but crush them into powder and also use the little tadpole pellets but crush them up too. They seem to be gobbling them up too.

It's difficult to tell if tadpoles are eating sometimes, depending on the species. You may never see one eat. But if they live more than 3 days at a time, they're eating.

Yeah hehe it can be difficult to see. But if they are pooping a lot which they do, they must be eating something I assume
