Just under 3 weeks ago I bought Ella, she's my second White's Tree Frog. She is 3-4 years old and pretty big, maybe a bit chubby. So since I got her, I've been feeding her at random times.

At first, I had to make do with small insects (small hoppers, crickets). She ate pretty much all of them within a week or so. Then I bought her large crickets, she's eaten about 5 in the past week. I also have wax worms, these have been her main source of food. I tend to give her 2/night without any other foods (I add supplement occasionally).

However, last night, I found her water bowl had dried up (I assume it may have been low and the water evaporated, my old tank caused the water to evaporate so fast). And in the empty bowl, I saw 4 dead worms.

Now, last night I gave her 6 wax worms as a "treat". She ate 3 in my supervision, then I went to sleep. This morning, there were 4 in the water bowl. I'm assuming she threw them up?

So this is what I'm asking:

1. How much should she really be eating? She eats non-stop, my old frog would stop when he was full so it's hard to tell.

2. Why was she sick? Did I over-feed her, and is she alright?

This morning I washed her with mineral water and let her soak in the water bowl for a while, she's active and looks healthy (maybe a little lethargic, since she's nocturnal and I woke her up?)

Any help would be appreciated!

Here's a picture of Ella taken a few weeks ago, she's about 8cm long (I think, I don't want to measure her right now).

Wax worms a couple for an occasional treat, too many and your asking for kidney and liver disease, a disease of the eyes with fat. They can be hard to digest do to fat content and often regurged, should feed crix and roaches and bugs along those lines. If it is winter she will probably not eat or eat less. I suggest you dig thru old threads on this site for helpful info, Bill

She eats loads, she seems to continue eating no matter what. She absolutely loved wax worms, and she's had a few crickets (unfortunately I've run out of them and I won't be able to get some more until the start of the New Year).

Do you think it's ok to feed her wax worms for the next few days until I can buy her some proper food? I might get some mealies/hoppers.

Quick question: From that picture, do you think she's overweight? Her previous owner said he fed her 1 box of large crix per week.

The frog at that age does not need to eat every day, especially waxworms. Eating waxworms is like only eating the fat from steaks. She looks to be a good weight.

I know this isn't too related but I'm panicking a little as my previous frog died from Red Leg, Ella seems to have sort of dark/red legs and her "finger tips" dark red/brown. She's eating and is very active, bathing in her water bowl etc. Do you know what this could mean? Is she alright?

Sounds like normal flesh colored areas. Keep her water and cage clean and you should have no problems. And also do not put new frogs in with existing frogs.

No, I would never mix her up with another frog! Thank you, I'm sure with my old frog he got sick as I didn't clean his water bowl out enough, but Ella's very active.

I usually feed mine 8 crickets each twice a week. In the winter though, no matter how warm I keep it, they don't eat as much so it's often one feeding a week for them. If I give them more than they eat, they will have crickets everywhere...lol, and that would be bad.
