Female pixies grow to be about 5" while males grow to be 10".
A female needs a 10+ while a male needs a 20+. These frogs don't move around much so you don't have to get a nice 75 gallon.
Pixie frogs may move your decorations around, but fake plants make their habitat look better.
Heating and Lighting:
Exo-Terra heating pads are sufficient enough. Put them on the bottom or the sides. Pixie frogs are from Africa so they need 80 degrees Fahrenheit . For lighting use a 50 watt light or a 75 watt black light. These guys do not need UV lights but if you have live plants, UV light is preferred.
Fill a bowl with water and put it in the tank so the frog can submerge in it if needed. Do not use chlorine water and change the water daily.
Feed 3-4 crickets daily, and (optional) 2 baby mice a year.
These guys bite. Don't be surprised if you end up pulling a bloody finger out of your pixie's mouth. Your tendency to jump can send a pixie frog flying across the room. For anybody who thinks it's funny to get bit by a frog, it hurts from these guys. It's like getting your finger wedged between two pieces of jagged glass!
I own a pixie frog. It is 2 years old. It's name is Annabeth and it bit me once. My finger bled real badly. But I still love it!
Hi, my name is Christy. I love African Pixie Frogs!
