Members of the Forum Please be advised that the three things above are all different. And some folks fit into all three categories.

Breeder is one who breeds their frogs. There are large scale breeder smaller ones that are just starting out like . They generally can readily provide photographs of the process/frogs they offer for sale. They can provide pictures of the exact frogs for sale and often the parents. They know the history of the parents to the point where the purchased them or raised them from tads. These are generally your best bet for buying with few headaches.

Dealers generally deal with pipelining product to the market/hobby from the breeders. - They care mostly about moving volume to create an income stream. Buying in Bulk and dispersing to Re-sellers. They generally use stock photo's that could be an animal

Re-sellers - Generally these are not huge operations. But can be. Pet stores are included in this group. They buy from product lists from Breeders and Dealers. They seldom have the frogs in their possession more than a week. Some even have the product drop shipped to the customer, never having seen the frog. They often will only refund money or give credit if the frog is DOA. Because that is how they can get their money back from the Dealer or breeder - Many of which have 24 hour live guarantees. They almost always use stock photos or cannot produce time stamped photos of the actual product.

I am writing this for all to be informed. S/he who posts huge lists of available product may indeed have the frogs available....Available as in...You order from them and then they order from the Dealer/Reseller.

For those of you Breeding, Dealing, and/or Re-selling.....Be advised that it is in your best interest to be honest and forthcoming about whether you have product in hand and whether you are responsible for breeding said frog... Have pictures ready before posting. Please include a date time stamp if possible.

Re-sellers-----PLEASE be prepared to undergo strict scrutiny by our members ---Whether you have been on this site awhile or not. If you are not in possession of said frogs....POST THAT INFORMATION.

Thanks and Happy Herping

I think it is good to start examining the nature of sales on TTTF before it becomes primarily a free listing service for businesses of unknown nature, so thanks Frogbert.

Definitely a good thing for people to keep in mind when they're buying. However, it's not always that cut and dry. For example, since you mentioned him as a breeder, Steven Busch doesn't breed all the animals he sells. It's my understanding that most of his animals are imported. Depending on what you're buying from him, he could be in a different category.

Also, I've bought most of my South American frogs from a couple different Dealers. Both of my main sources take their own pictures, are very knowledgeable about their animals, and genuinely interested in the health of their animals.

Don't be too hasty to lump everyone in the same bunch based on preconceived ideas, bad experiences with different people, or malicious rumors started by the competition. Do your own research on each person you buy from. You might be surprised what you discover.

I think so too.

This is good advice. Some resellers are not very good at telling exactly in what state the animal is in, nor where it came from. Breeders are more hands on...and even those who buy tads and raise them to resell they at least can see the frogs and see if there are problems with them. All things to think about when buying.

Ryan I have not imported since 10/08 and will not be bringing in anything else other than for my own breeding projects. The only reason for bringing in the wild caught was I was tired of getting crappy animals that have bounced around from importer to a wholesaler to ???? before I would get them. If you really look at my posting on this site I rarely advertised animals for sale and do not think that is what this forum is about. The only wild caught I am now selling are whites that have been in my possession since 8/8/08. I am for holding the line and restricting the advertising on this site to captive bred animals only. People can use Kingsnake for the other stuff.

Good to hear, Steve. I'm always in favor of CB projects. I know you don't generally advertise here. I've always felt this section of the forum was more for individuals trying to sell a "pet", but it is nice to have a few ads from the breeders or dealers that we trust.

First post has been edited to remove names listed. NOt my intent to appear to be favoring anyone. THey were just the names that came to mind from recent readings.

Here is an ADDITIONAL point....THE frog does not endorse any breeder, dealer, or seller. Opinions of its members, and moderators do not necessarily reflect the position of thefrog. theFrog is not liable for any members/moderators opinions.

Thefrog Moderators have a strict code of ethics to moderate by and will remove at their discretion, any posts from sellers that are only here to sell and lend little to the greater good of the forum.

Thank you
